This Privacy Policy describes how the Switchboard app ("the app", "we") handles your information. Switchboard's entire job is deciding which already-installed browser should open a link you or another app asks macOS to open. We do not operate any servers, and the app has no concept of a user account.
1. Information We Collect
We do not collect anything. Switchboard has no backend, no analytics SDK, no crash reporting, and no advertising network. The app cannot identify you, and nothing about your usage of it is ever transmitted anywhere.
2. What's Stored On Your Device
Your settings. Your pinned browser, URL rules, app triggers, timed switches, hidden-browser list, and hotkey preference are stored in a single settings file inside the app's own private, sandboxed storage on your Mac. None of it is ever transmitted anywhere.
Browser access grants. If you grant Switchboard access to a browser installed outside the standard Applications folder, or to Chrome/Edge's profile data for profile detection, macOS records that permission as a security-scoped bookmark — the standard sandboxed-app mechanism for remembering a folder you've explicitly picked. That bookmark is stored locally and only lets Switchboard access exactly what you selected.
3. What Switchboard Actually Sees
When a link is opened, Switchboard sees the URL itself — that's what it needs to decide, using your own rules, which browser should open it. It hands that URL straight to the browser you've configured and does not inspect, log, or store the page content, your browsing history, or anything that happens after the browser takes over.
4. Third-Party Services
Switchboard does not integrate any third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs. It does not use sign-in of any kind, because there is no account to sign in to.
5. Permissions
Notifications. Used only to tell you when a timed switch or trigger changes your browser, and when it reverts. Entirely optional, and can be turned off from within the app or System Settings at any time.
Accessibility / folder access (browser grants). Used only when you explicitly grant access to a browser outside the Applications folder, or to Chrome/Edge's profile data, through the app's own file picker described in Section 2. Switchboard never requests broader file-system access than what you specifically select.
Default browser handler. Switchboard registers itself as an available web browser with macOS so it can be selected as the default handler for web links — this is what lets it route links in the first place. Claiming this role is an explicit action you take from the app's Settings, never something that happens automatically or silently.
6. Data Retention and Deletion
Everything Switchboard stores lives in the app's private, sandboxed storage on your Mac. A "Reset All Settings" option inside the app clears it instantly. Uninstalling the app, or clearing its data through your Mac's system tools, removes everything — there is no account or server-side copy for us to delete, because none exists.
7. Children's Privacy
Switchboard is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children — in fact, as described above, we do not collect personal information from anyone.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The effective date at the top of this page will be updated accordingly. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
